So, on this our last full day in Durham, we had a little Christmas festivation after breakfast, consisting of reading a Christmas book (this year's selection: Cobweb Christmas, which made me cry only because I'm pregnant. Books about spiders don't usually give me warm fuzzies),
exploring our stocking goodies,
and opening presents.
We didn't really exchange many gifts -- there is really no need -- but it was nice that Edward was actually able to enjoy unwrapping his gifts and playing with them afterward. Mostly, this consisted of reading his new books several times over, and playing with his new frog (his last frog met a tragic end a few weeks ago when it was placed too close to a lamp...).
It occurred to me later that we only took pictures and movies of Edward, but watching him enjoy his "first" Christmas was the highlight of the event, anyway. (Later, we will go on our traditional walk and read the traditional Luke passages, but that will have to wait until after Joseph wakes up from his traditional Christmas nap.)
I would like to title this comment: "Gorillas and spiders and frogs, oh my!"
ReplyDeleteSecond reaction: Why...it's my first Christmas of this year too! What a shock - I...I'm speechless! (Which fortunately has no impact on my typing abilities)
And now for more specific observations -
Item A. methinks I spy a tattoo on Joesker's left arm there. Hope you haven't turned to a life of piracy, wot?
Item B. I see envelopes addressed to Edward and Joseph in the "present picture," but one name is conspicuously absent. Hmmm...perhaps Santa Claus thought "Kirstilooflescrumpskerlumpscious" was too long a name to print on a card?
Item C. I'm still a little curious as to the fate of "Baby's First Frog" - came to a fiery end, or squashed like a real frog into smithereens? Or is there something even deeper at work here...
Anyway, many happy Christmases to Edward and I look forward to seeing you on Friday (if I make it through my 7 am Civil War final that day, that is...)
Response A: Unless Joseph happened to have a raisin squashed into his arm by Floof at the time of the picture (always a likely event hereabouts), he has no tattoo. Well, even then he would have no tattoo, but whatever.
ReplyDeleteResponse B: I did, in fact, receive a letter, but it was not folded, and therefore was not conspicuous in the picture.
Response C: You'll have to ask for the entire frog story in person; it's a little cumbersome to write about in a blog comment.
Good luck on your final(s)!
At first I thought the video was going to show the actual demise of the original frog!
ReplyDeleteI thought the blog was wonderful and I enjoyed seeing Edward open his present! I didn't hear any mention of "traditional" food and thought that must be a mistake. I do wonder what beautiful dessert you would make for Christmas. Have a safe and wonderful trip to Utah. Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteKirsti, the gifts look beautifully wrapped (of course). It's always fun to watch kids open presents, it is one of the greatest joys of Christmas for me. I'm looking forward to sharing your 2nd or 3rd Christmas soon.
ReplyDelete@Shelly: As for traditional food, I confess I have been holding off until next week, when my mother, sister & I shall go into "baking overdrive" in preparation for the holidays.
