It Must Be a Guy Thing

The male bonding continues here in North Carolina as Edward’s fascination with his father increases. And how could it not, when “Dad Time” means blowing the seeds off of dandelion puffs, reading books outside, taking cold showers, and swinging by the feet in dizzying circles? That Dad is one cool guy to hang out with.

Joseph is so cool, in fact, that Edward has begun following him around the house. When Joseph makes breakfast in the morning, for instance, Edward is there with him, happily underfoot. When Joseph puts his shoes on to leave for school, Edward follows him and tries to put on Mom’s shoes (or, at least, to put them in his mouth…). When Joseph visits the loo, Edward sits outside the door, waiting for his return.

Joseph’s not exactly big on playing “catch” (not that Edward could play along at this point, anyway), but he and Edward certainly share a fondness for kettle bells. Edward loves watching Dad heft the kettle bells ― the sight is enough to set him giggling for minutes on end.

Who, I ask, needs a television when watching Dad swing kettle bells is so captivating?Indeed, Edward is in training to swing the 70lb kettle bell himself one day soon:
When all is said and done, I really am not all that surprised at how much fun dadwatching is. I myself find few things as enchanting as watching the two of them doin’ the guy thing together.

Eddie is making quite a bit of progress (I just realized there is an "ogre" in progress...interesting) with his motor skills. I fail to comprehend why one must be bare-chested to lift a kettle bell, but then I guess I never have seriously attempted to do it.

  3. @Tar Heel: You don't have to be bare chested to lift a kettle bell. But sometimes it's nice when it's 85 degrees in the apartment and you're sweating like a metaphorical pig. He wears a shirt when he works out at the gym, if that counts for anything. (He also would have put on a shirt if he knew I'd be taking pictures.)

  4. This post must go into the family newsletter, unless you respond in 3 days (and "Silence gives consent" per Pope Boniface VIII and countless attorneys). Thanks so much for that precious video of our budding superman.
